Hope Beyond Medication: Rethinking Seizures and Healing

Whether you’ve been diagnosed with epilepsy, told your seizures are “non-epileptic,” or are still desperately searching for answers, living with fear of the next potential episode can feel terrifying and overwhelming.

Patients with seizures have described a feeling of being hijacked by their own brain like they’re “wired wrong,” or as if their freedom to live a normal life has been taken away. Despite how disruptive and life-altering these episodes can be, many are told that their labs and imaging look “pretty normal,” and that medication is their only option.

At Hope and Healing Naturopathic, we see things differently.  Your brain and body are NOT broken – in fact, they’re incredibly wise.  Seizures aren’t random; they’re your nervous system’s way of sounding the alarm (though of course, a text message notification would be much nicer).  Seizure activity is a signal that something is out of balance and in need of support.

Our role is to ask why, uncover what’s dysregulating your system, and support your body’s ability to rebalance using modalities that go beyond medication or supplements.

Conventional Seizure Care: What’s Missing?

In conventional (allopathic) medicine, seizures are primarily managed with pharmaceutical drugs that aim to suppress or alter neurological activity. Commonly prescribed medications include Levetiracetam (Keppra)Valproic Acid/Divalproex (Depakote),Lamotrigine (Lamictal), and Carbamazepine (Tegretol) – often introduced without much exploration into why the seizures are happening in the first place.

While these medications may reduce seizure frequency for some, they often come with significant side effects, including fatigue, memory loss, mood changes, weight gain, skin rashes, and emotional instability. Many patients are prescribed multiple medications or higher dosages—only to continue experiencing seizures, or to trade them for a life of sedation.

Diagnostic testing is typically limited to EEGs, MRIs, neurological exams, and basic lab work. While helpful for ruling out tumors or acute abnormalities, these tools often miss more subtle, functional, or systemic contributors to seizure activity. As a result, many patients are left without answers, no exploration of deeper causes, and with limited options beyond a lifetime of medication.

This is where our approach shines.

Root Cause Medicine

At Hope and Healing Naturopathic, we don’t do one-size-fits-all protocols. Every patient is unique, therefore, every treatment plan is customized to support your goals, genetics, and lifestyle.

Our focus is on identifying and addressing the underlying cause(s) of seizure activity, while helping the nervous system regulate so your brain is no longer triggered to react with seizures.

We look beyond numbers on a piece of paper or brain scans alone.  Our comprehensive approach considers you as a whole person and explores a wide range of potential contributing factors including:

  • Nervous system dysregulation!!!  including anything that disrupts balance – such as poor sleep, chronic or severe stress, breathing patterns, diet, EMF or environmental exposures, caffeine, alcohol or drugs, exercise habits, thought patterns, or even certain supplements
  • Head or face trauma, including concussions, birth trauma, accidents, or orthodontic history
  • Structural issues involving cranial bones, the spine, muscle, fascia, or scar tissue.
  • Toxic accumulation from diet, mold, heavy metals, vaccines, chemicals, and other environmental exposures
  • Gut-brain axis dysfunction, including leaky gut or microbiome imbalance
  • Blood sugar imbalances, including hypoglycemia, diabetes, or insulin resistance
  • Genetic influences, such as gene mutations, family history, generational trauma
  • Nutrient deficiencies or electrolyte imbalances
  • Chronic infections, such as Epstein-Barr virus, Lyme, West Nile, meningitis, parasites, or etc…
  • Emotional trauma or unprocessed stress
  • Reactions to or withdrawal from medications

Seizures are rarely caused by a single factor.  Our goal is to take the time to investigate and resolve potential contributors – so you can move toward a life with fewer (or no) seizures, and greater confidence in yourself, your body, and your brain.

Our Holistic, Natural Approach to Seizure Treatment

We offer an in-depth intake to gather information about your health and family history, lifestyle, goals, and timeline, while also completing a physical exam.  Urinary indican testing helps evaluate intestinal hyperpermeability (leaky gut), while any applicable blood tests may be completed to assess for infection, deficiencies, or imbalances.  A few drops of blood are gently taken via a lancet at the earlobe to complete your food intolerance evaluation to identify foods your body may have difficulty digesting.

Treatments are always tailored to what’s most appropriate for you, the patient, so specific modalities or combinations of treatments used may vary from visit to visit.

We are the only clinic in the world offering a comprehensive neurological reset approach that integrates Bio Craniopathy, Quantum Neuro Reset Therapy, Neuro Emotional Technique, microcurrent and scalar energy devices, acupuncture, homeopathy, Food Intolerance Method, and targeted detoxification and nutritional support.

This approach allows us to address both the physical aspects—as well as the emotional drivers of imbalance to your nervous system.  Our goal goes beyond seizure control—it’s full neurological restoration, which helps:

  • Build confidence and foster a sense of peace and empowerment
  • Restore emotional balance
  • Promote restful, restorative sleep
  • Boost energy levels
  • Reduce anxiety and depression
  • Improve digestion and gut health
  • Support hormonal balance and healthy weight

A Real Patient Story

One of our patients came to us after experiencing multiple seizures over several months, resulting in ER visits. He was scared, overwhelmed, and hesitant to continue medications that left him feeling drugged and foggy.  He also experienced daily, intense headaches, anxiety, and insomnia that interfered with his life as an active, social high school student.

Despite the severity of his symptoms, imaging results were normal, and ER lab work showed nothing overtly abnormal or pathological. He was told to take pain relievers for the headaches and to continue seizure medication.  That’s it – no relief, no explanation of why the seizures were happening, and no discussion of other options beyond medication.

As his sense of control plummeted, his anxiety escalated. His hobbies, mood, and social life declined. The seizures, headaches, and insomnia continued—until he reached out to us for help. Through a comprehensive assessment, we uncovered multiple underlying issues:

  • Structural dysfunction in his cranium (skull), likely stemming from multiple head injuries during accidents involving hard objects (e.g., golf clubs, trees, steering wheels) from his adventurous lifestyle.
  • Nutrient deficiencies and a diet with frequent consumption of his food intolerances.
  • Unprocessed emotional trauma from prior stressors, compounded by the emotional toll of living with seizures.
  • Toxic burden related to recent vaccinations, consumption of dietary intolerances, and frequent chemical exposures, etc.
  • Chronic muscular inflammation, especially in his neck and upper back, with muscles that were ropey, dense, and tender to the touch.

Determined to find relief before the school year began, he flew in for an intensive three-day treatment program. During that time, we performed a series of Bio Craniopathy sessions (6 total). After each treatment, he described immediate relief from head pain—saying his head felt lighter, clearer, and more open.

We also:

  • Identified and removed dietary intolerances that were contributing to internal inflammation and toxemia.
  • Released stored subconscious trauma.  With each session, his anxiety lessened, his mood stabilized, and his body relaxed.
  • Restored neurological and energetic balance using acupuncture, microcurrent, scalar devices, and massage.
  • Provided guidance on an individualized homeopathic remedy and a few carefully chosen supplements to support detox pathways and replenish key nutrients.

After just three days, he left pain-free!  Since then, he has reported no seizures or severe headaches for over a year. He’s now back to enjoying an active, healthy life—without medication, and without fear.

Before – Notice the upper back muscle inflammation, especially in the mid upper region.
After – Just 3 days later, less dense, inflamed, and more relaxed tissue allowing for improved circulation and less pain.

While this level of intensive care over three days isn’t typical, this case is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when the root causes are addressed and the body is given a true opportunity to heal.

You Don’t Have to Settle for a Life with Seizures. Healing Is Possible.
