What Is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a holistic treatment founded on Traditional Chinese Medicine that has been used for thousands of years to support healing throughout the entire body. It involves placing very fine needles at specific points to help regulate the nervous system, improve circulation, and restore balance in the body’s energy pathways.
Acupuncture supports the body’s ability to heal, therefore, it can help with many physical and mental/emotional concerns. Some of the most common conditions include:
- Chronic pain
- Muscle tension
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Stress
- Insomnia
- Constipation
- Bloating
- Nausea
- Irregular or painful menses
- Jaw pain/TMJ issues
- Headaches or migraines
How Does It Work?
Modern science has shown that acupuncture releases tension from the fascia (the tight tissue that wraps all muscles). When an acupuncture needle is inserted, it creates a gentle pull on the fascia, which helps unwind adhesions, relax tight connective tissue, and restore normal movement patterns. This fascial release also communicates directly with the nervous system, triggering a calming, anti-pain response, facilitating faster tissue repair. Additionally, it helps to release stored trauma and emotions that the body is holding onto.
What Can I Expect?
Your first visit includes a full evaluation and a customized acupuncture treatment. A tongue and pulse diagnosis helps your practitioner find patterns related to your symptoms.
Acupuncture needles are extremely thin (about the width of a hair), and treatment is gentle, safe, and tailored to your comfort level and goals. Most people find the experience deeply relaxing and may even fall asleep during the session.
