When Pain Has a Deeper Cause: Natural Fibromyalgia Relief

Persistent pain and fatigue that don’t improve with sleep can be disheartening, especially when it feels like family, friends, co-workers, and even practitioners don’t understand or are skeptical of your symptoms.  You’ve likely already tried pain meds or muscle relaxants, anti-inflammatory supplements, CBD, exercise and stress reduction, and other options that may have offered short-term hope without lasting relief.  Over time, living with a condition like fibromyalgia can leave you feeling disconnected from your body—as if it’s betraying you and limiting your freedom to move and enjoy life.

We understand that fibromyalgia can be frustrating and often misunderstood, but it’s not something you have to accept or live with.   Fibromyalgia is often a diagnosis of exclusion, meaning lab work doesn’t reveal autoimmune markers like those seen in rheumatoid arthritis, yet physical exams clearly indicate real pain.  The words fibro (‘fiber’) and myalgia(‘muscle pain’) simply describe your symptoms of muscle fiber pain, without explaining why you’re struggling or how to truly heal.

You deserve more than a vague label or settling for a life limited by pain, fatigue, brain fog, and taking a back seat to living life to the fullest.

Finding the Why Behind Your Symptoms

Fibromyalgia is rarely caused by a single issue, but rather a combination of stressors and imbalances across multiple systems. It isn’t cured with medication or supplements alone, without addressing underlying causes.  Some of the factors we commonly see contributing to symptoms like pain, fatigue, and brain fog include:

  • Nervous System Dysregulation:  A hypersensitive nervous system can amplify pain and intensify emotional and physical reactions.  The longer we are stuck in fight-or-flight (or freeze) mode–known as sympathetic dominance, the more severe our symptoms can be and the harder it can become to return to balance.  Unfortunately, just as an unregulated nervous system can cause symptoms, pain can also worsen neurological imbalances creating a discouraging, perpetual cycle.
  • Suppressed Emotions:  Throughout our life, we have all either minimized the impact of a tough situation, or moved on with life because we lacked the time, skills, or support to process what happened.  When this happens, the body holds onto the burden, and the more unprocessed emotions we carry, the worse our symptoms can become.  This can include both physical trauma (such as accidents, illness, or abuse) or emotional trauma (such as grief, shame, chronic stress, perfectionism, or criticism).  Conventional paradigms may lead you to believe that your pain is “in your head” or solely physical, but the reality is, your body is using pain to signal that it’s time to release the emotional burden that has become too heavy to continue carrying.

  • Compromised Digestive Health:  Our gut plays a role in so much more than just digestion.  It can impact our energy, mood, weight, hormones, immune health, and nearly every internal system.  When our digestive tract is impaired, whether from medications, stress, or our diet, it can trigger inflammatory symptoms including pain, fatigue, and brain fog.
  • Overburdened Detox Pathways:  Frequent exposure to offending foods or beverages, chemicals, medications, fragrances, or environmental toxicants can overwhelm the body’s detoxification pathways.  The key is to support the detox pathways (liver, kidneys, lymphatic circulation, etc.) while also reducing incoming toxicants for a winning combination.
  • Biochemical Imbalances:  Our body craves balance (homeostasis) and when this balance is threatened, symptoms develop to get our attention that it’s time to make some changes.  Labs showing high glucose or TSH are a sign that there are imbalances, just as fatigue and pain are symptoms of imbalances.  Deficient or excessive nutrients, hormones, or neurotransmitters can all contribute to your symptoms and the solution is to support the body’s ability to self-correct.
  • Structural Misalignments:  Cranial, spinal, or anatomical misalignments can interfere with nerve signaling, create muscular tension, and exacerbate symptoms. These issues are often overlooked in conventional evaluations, yet addressing them can lead to immediate and lasting improvement.

Once we understand the factors behind your symptoms, we can create a plan that addresses the root causes and guides you toward recovery.

A Whole-Person Approach to Healing

Our philosophy at Hope and Healing Naturopathic is that fibromyalgia is not simply a physical issue with symptoms that need to be suppressed.  Rather, we know that your symptoms are signals that you (body, mind, soul) need some gentle support and guidance to realign. Healing begins when we address you as a whole person and resolve the causes, such as those listed above.

All appointments are customized based on your specific goals and concerns.  We may focus more on one modality or perform a combination of treatments depending on what is in your best interest.  Some of the most common treatments that we have found to help patients with fibromyalgia include:

  • Nutritional Guidance:  Fueling your cells with beneficial nutrients provides energy and focus.  That’s why it’s important to provide your body with foods that can support your healing.  Through identifying food intolerances, correcting nutrient deficiencies, and supporting digestive healing, your body is able to decrease systemic inflammation and resolve bothersome symptoms.
  • Acupuncture:  Symptoms can be attributed to patterns of excess or deficiency and acupuncture can help balance meridians, promote relaxation, and decrease pain.
  • Bio Craniopathy:  This hands-on therapy gently and quickly shifts skull bones to correct misalignments, improve nervous system function, and promote relaxation.
  • Quantum Neuro Reset Therapy (QNRT):  A cutting-edge modality that identifies and clears unresolved emotional stress patterns stored in the nervous system. By resetting the brain, perpetuating cycles of pain can be halted and you can feel more calm to allow for faster healing.
  • Neuro Emotional Technique (NET):  NET helps uncover and release unprocessed emotions and unresolved stress or trauma that the body has been carrying.  Releasing this “emotional baggage” can allow for more energy, less pain, more emotional stability, and improved overall health!

  • Homeopathic Medicine:  Individually prescribed homeopathic medicines offer gentle yet profound support for physical and emotional restoration.  Finding the specific remedy indicated for you can speed up your healing, while decreasing the expense or need for extensive medications or supplements.
  • Frequency Medicine:  Scalar and frequency based devices can painlessly add cellular voltage to promote healing, increase energy, reduce inflammation and pain, and promote relaxation.
  • Customized Lab or Supplement Recommendations: Labs, imaging, and supplements are often overprescribed for people with fibromyalgia and don’t typically find or address underlying causes.  We do not use supplements to suppress symptoms, but rather to work WITH your body to support weakened or damaged systems and boost nutrient deficiencies, when applicable.
